About this Venue
The Mackintosh Tearooms (Mackintosh at the Willow)
Dating to 1903, the category A-listed Mackintosh Tearooms are the last remaining original tearooms among a number designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald for Glasgow entrepreneur Kate Cranston.
These tearooms were a popular setting for socialising in the early 20th century, especially for women seeking a safe space in which to enjoy refreshments and conversation.
The Mackintosh Tearooms came into the care of the National Trust for Scotland in January 2024.
Alongside Hill House in Helensburgh, the tearooms form part of the focus for Mackintosh Illuminated, a major conservation, engagement, and fundraising project centred around two of Glasgow’s publicly accessible Charles Rennie Mackintosh sites.
The project also seeks to deepen public understanding of his wife, Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, and their immense artistic contribution, creative partnership and influence that helped shape the Glasgow style.
