About this Event

Inspired by Matinees and Memories: Thomas McGoran’s Glasgow and Neil Johnson-Symington’s Art of Cinema Going, both on display at Edward House from Thursday 17 to Sunday 20 September, we’re inviting festivalgoers to share their own memories of going to the pictures in Glasgow.

Remember going to the pictures?

Whether your favourite cinema memory is from decades past or last week, we’d love to hear it.

Come along with friends and family, tell us your stories, record them on our audio equipment, and bring photographs, tickets, photos, programmes or memorabilia that help capture Glasgow’s rich cinemagoing culture.

The exhibitions will be open daily at Edward House from 12pm to 5pm throughout the Festival, offering a chance to explore Thomas McGoran’s nostalgic artworks, discover the art of cinema-going, and share your own stories with us.

While you’re at Edward House, we’re inviting festivalgoers to help us create a living archive of what it was like going to the pictures in Glasgow over the last 70 years.

Those living with dementia and their families are particularly welcome, as we want everyone in our community to feel able to contribute their memories, songs and anecdotes — we know there are so many wonderful stories to share.

Our Festival Volunteers will be on hand from 10am to 4pm each day to record your memories, if you'd like to share them, and help with any additional access needs, or simply find you a chair if you need one.

We’ll share the recordings later in the year on our Festival website as part of our celebration of Edward House’s Cinema City focus.

Thank you in advance for helping us celebrate and preserve Glasgow’s cinema-going memories for future generations.
