Alexander ‘Greek’ Thomson designed the house for paper magnate James Couper and his wife in 1857–8.
Holmwood House is widely regarded as this Scottish architect’s finest domestic creation.
The National Trust for Scotland has now finished its renovation project to restore Thomson's interiors as he designed them in the 1850s.
It is now the only Thomson building open to the public with original interiors intact.
