Glasgow Women's Library's 35th Birthday Building Tours

Come to one of our drop-in building tours to learn about the history of our 120-year old building which was originally built for the Bridgeton Public Library.

GWL moved into the building in 2013 after a major refurbishment, which made the building more accessible and able to host specialist collections preserving women’s lives and histories. In these tours you’ll get a peek behind the scenes at our archive and museum stores, hear about GWL’s journey to where we are today, and of course learn about the rich history of our building.

Open Archive: Feminist Days & Nights Out

For Doors Open Days, we'll be showcasing archival treasures that capture the social, cultural and creative spaces that have brought women together over the decades.

Discover event posters, badges, flyers, vinyl records and more, exploring themes including Pride, music and dance events, women's exhibitions, activism and community organising.

From club nights and performances to exhibitions and celebrations, explore how Glasgow Women's Library has been at the heart of feminist and queer social life for 35 years, creating spaces for connection, creativity and collective joy.

You can also experience our feminist jukebox, part of Ruth Ewan's exhibition A Feminist Jukebox of People Trying to Change the World.

Once a familiar feature of pubs, cafés and entertainment venues, jukeboxes played a central role in shaping the soundtrack of nights out throughout the 20th century.

Browse a selection of songs drawn from Glasgow Women's Library's collection and reflect on the music that has accompanied feminist movements, friendships, celebrations and collective action across generations.

The tracks range from mainstream pop favourites to rare and unexpected recordings, offering a unique insight into the sounds that have inspired, connected and empowered women over the years.
