About this Venue
Glasgow Central Mosque
Glasgow Central Mosque is the first purpose-built mosque in Glasgow and the largest in Scotland.
Last year, the Glasgow Central Mosque was granted A-listed status by HES. It is a building of significant historical and cultural importance.
The Mosque building is around 40 years old however the society that built the Mosque is over 90 years old.
During our tour, we talk about the history of Muslims in Scotland which goes back to the 16th century, as well as the first Mosque in Scotland in the 1940s, which was the precursor to the current central Mosque, and finally the development of the current Mosque site.
We also discuss the contributions of Muslims to Scottish civil society and in the World Wars.
