First look: the 2026 GDODF Talks Programme at the ARC Festival Hub

Here’s a first look at some of the exciting talks planned for our Talks Programme at the Festival Hub in the ARC, University of Glasgow, from 17-20 September.

Inspired by this year’s theme, Glasgow Goes Out: The Places That Made Us, the programme explores the venues, streets, buildings and shared spaces that have shaped Glasgow's social and cultural life. Looking beyond architecture alone, these talks uncover stories of community, memory and belonging, revealing the remarkable places, people and lost worlds that continue to define the city.

Lost Glasgow’s Ye dancin’? will take audiences on an illustrated waltz through the city’s lost and forgotten dancehalls, nightclubs and discos. Jackie Sangster’s Art Deco Days will explore all things Deco, with a strong focus on Glasgow and highlights from across Scotland — from Moderne buildings and stylish lidos to streamlined transport, cinema-going and a final visit to The Empire Exhibition of 1938, perhaps the epitome of the era? Architect Fiona Sinclair will turn the spotlight on St Vincent Street Church, while Judith Bowers, from the Britannia Panopticon Music Hall, will host two special GDODF Fundraising talks exploring Glasgow’s theatre and entertainment history and the city’s historic pubs.

It’s a lively mix for anyone curious about how Glasgow has gathered, worshipped, performed, celebrated and socialised through the years — with one more special event still to be revealed when the programme launches.
