HUB - TALK: Revisiting the Old Country Houses of the Old Glasgow Gentry

HUB - The Garment Factory, 10 Montrose Street, G1 1RE

In 1870, The Old Country Houses of the Old Glasgow surveyed landed estates around west-central Scotland, sometimes distancing landowners from the origins of their wealth. By examining the connections between chattel slavery and landowners, this lecture situates the estates in transatlantic context. Talk by historian Stephen Mullen.
