Pollokshields Church of Scotland

525 Shields Road, Glasgow, G41 2RF
1877/78 (Church Building), 1912 -14 (Interior Alterations), Robert Baldie (Church Building), Peter McGregor Chalmers (Alterations)
B listed 19th century Gothic style church boasting 60 brilliantly coloured stained glass windows throughout the building, together with the 1913 magnificent Harrison & Harrison pipe organ which is still in regular use.

Having celebrated it's centenary in 2013, the 3 manual organ is enclosed in a carved oak case designed by Henry Edward Clifford of Glasgow.  Set into this , casing, behind a superbly carved oak stall, you will see tapestries, reputedly 14th century Italian. You can also see the oak communion table and the octagonal alabaster pulpit, both elaborately carved and decorated.  Within the body of the church are 12 polished granite columns, each uniquely capped, and a large brass eagle lectern, and these are complemented by the original sandstone and alabaster baptismal font.

Overall the building  glows in the light from the stained glass windows which illustrate many Bible stories and passages, and which feature designs by Stephen Adam, Robert Anning Bell & W & JJ Keir. Modern decorative needlework panels by Sally Harkness Moody are displayed, together with older ecclesiastical embroideries which have been inherited from other local churches which have variously closed or united to become the present Pollokshields Church. For those who are interested in genealogy & family history,  the Book of Remembrance is available to view, which contains information & gives details of the members of all those local churches, who have died in both the Wars, and more recent conflicts.
