Mackintosh at the Willow
217 Sauchiehall Street, G2 3EX
1903, Charles Rennie Mackintosh
A chance to see the restored 1903 Art Nouveau tearooms designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and Margaret Macdonald- includes the exquisite Salon de Luxe private dining room!
At the turn of the century Glasgow was a thriving place to be out and about- and nowhere more so than Miss Cranston's establishment at 217 Sauchiehall Street. Designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and including interiors by Margaret Macdonald, this was an eye-catching example of the Art Nouveau style. The 4 year restoration undertaken by The Willow Tea Rooms Trust has returned the building to its original splendour, complete with iconic Mackintosh chairs, chandeliers, stencilled fabrics and the famous gesso panel in the Salon de Luxe. Enjoy a free tour of the building and marvel at one of the city's most important architectural treasures.
