30th Anniversary Films

30 years of invites...

To celebrate our 30th anniversary we commissioned 5 short films, paying homage to the buildings and people that have been the backbone of Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival over the last 30 years. Each year, people from all over the city extend you an invitation to come and see the buildings they work in, and to share stories and experiences.

Glasgow City Chambers

The City Chambers somehow manages to be a hidden gem in the very centre of the city. A combination of mosaic, marble and carved wood come together to create a wonderful civic palace, with grand corridors and stately function rooms full of original details.

Merchants House

The Merchants House is a Glasgow institution, constituted in 1605. Still serving its original purpose of charitable giving to the city. Visitors can learn more about its charitable work while admiring its well-preserved historic city centre offices.

Clydeside Distillery

The first dedicated, single malt whisky distillery to be built in Glasgow for over a century. Come down to Queens Dock and watch Glasgow's stills flow once again. Learn more about the birth of the whisky industry and join a tour around the distillery.

The Barrowland Ballroom

The original Barrowland Ballroom opened in 1934 in a mercantile area east of Glasgow’s city centre and was built by “Barras Queen” Maggie McIver.  The building was largely destroyed by fire in 1958, leading to a complete rebuild. The rebuilt ballroom opened on Christmas Eve 1960. In more recent years, the Ballroom has become a major concert venue with a capacity of around 1950 people, known for its acoustics and its sprung dance floor.

Glasgow Press

Join Glasgow’s finest letterpress printers for its Wayzgoose - the traditional outing for print workers, marking the end of summer and the start of the season of working by candlelight. A Wayzgoose is the traditional annual outing held by a printing house for its workers, marking the end of summer and the start of the season of working by candlelight. This year, we’re staying in the factory, and invite you to join us for some festivities.
